Material Reciprocity

April 3 - 27, 2009
Opening Reception Friday April 3 from 6-9 pm

Possible Projects is pleased to announce its inaugural show, Material Reciprocity, featuring the work of Julia Dault, Thor Sigurthorsson, and Jeff Thompson.

This show concentrates on work that is honest in both its materials and presentation.  Through meeting their materials halfway, these artists create informal ‘agreements’ by utilizing the inherent properties of store bought, mundane objects.  Thompson’s captivating use of dust as sound, Sigurthorsson’s selections and sly combinations, and Dault’s tenuous chance on a site-specific balance exemplify the possibilities.  They avoid representation yet hope that new meanings are created through each relationship.  By focusing attention on simple changes, a transformation occurs that produces unexpected and exciting results.

Julia Dault’s work has been exhibited at Gallery MC and the Pulse Art Fair, NYC, and Harbourfront Centre and Gallery 44 in Toronto.  She received her MFA from Parsons the New School for Design in 2008, where she won the Dean’s Scholarship in both 2006 and 2007. She currently lives and works in New York City.

Thor Sigurthorsson
’s work has appeared at Jack the Pelican, the DUMBO Art Fair, Massimo Audiello, NYC and the Living Art Museum in Reykjavik, Iceland. He received his MFA from the School of Visual Arts in 2008.  He now lives and works in Reykjavik.

Jeff Thompson
recently performed in Dis-echo-nance at Hunter College’s Time Square Gallery, NYC. His work has been shown at White Box Gallery, Hogar Collection, NYC and BV Gallery in Austria. He was recently awarded the Van Lier Fellowship from Harvestworks, NYC.  He received his MFA from Rutgers University in 2006.  He lives and works in New York City.
