Portmanteau

July 23 - August 14, 2011
Opening Reception Friday April 3 from 6-9 pm

Portmanteau is a two-person exhibition featuring the work of James Davis and Kate Owens. The artists' work in this exhibition transcends the original source objects' context by creating a new idea through the combination of two distinctly definable items or elements.

James Davis received his BFA in Sculpture from VCU in Richmond, VA (2001), and obtained an MFA in Sculpture from Ohio State University in Columbus, OH (2003).  Davis recently presented solo exhibitions at the University of Memphis Art Museum (2009) and Rare Gallery (2011); his work has been in group shows in Chicago, New York, Richmond and San Francisco.  Davis is represented by Rare Gallery in New York City.

Kate Owens received her BA in Painting  from Edinburgh College of Art, Edinburgh (2002) and MA in Sculpture from The Royal College of Art, London (2008). Owens has recently presented solo exhibitions at Dicksmith Gallery, London (2009) and Seventeen, London (2011). Her work has recently been included in group exhibitions at Jancar Jones Gallery, SanFrancisco (2009), Hotel, London (2010) and Ingleby Gallery, Edinburgh (2011). Owens lives and works in London.
